Chesscampeona on the Move; Key Squares

This is the third edition of how to improve your fast chess on Chesskid.com. Have you ever been in a game and thought to yourself, "Man, I wish I had that square to put my knight on?" Or, "If only I had my queen on e7, I could win the game!"

Well, you just found a key square in your game. A key square is a square that is crucial to carrying out your plan of attack. A key square can also be defined as a square you just can't play without. There are several of these squares in your game and with proper planning you can take control of these key squares.

How do you take control of these squares?

1. Find the square that is very important for your position. If you find yourself wanting a square to put a piece or pawn on, then you have found it! If you can't find it, ask yourself which square is crucial for your plan of attack. Sometimes it is the square you are trying so hard to protect.

2. Formulate a plan to obtain the square. Planning is crucial; therefore as you plan make sure you can secure your own position before your attack.

3. Carry out your plan.

So remember, key squares are squares that are important to your plan of attack. If you want to succeed, find these squares and ATTACK!
