ChessKid Comes To Trafalgar Square!

After more than a year of lockdowns and restrictions on over-the-board chess, this past weekend London enjoyed likely its biggest-ever outdoor chess event: Chess Fest in the city's iconic Trafalgar Square.

Thanks to the organizer, the UK charity Chess in Schools and Communities, FunMasterMike had a front row spot to meet the kids. Oh, and two very familiar ChessKids played on the very big screen!

There were approximately 6000 attendees for this free-to-all event. Visitors saw Alice in Wonderland-themed live chess games, blitz tournaments, lectures and simuls, and more!

Famous GMs helping were Mickey Adams and Chris Ward (both of whom gave prize winner camps to our ChessKid-UK tournament).

We also had a ChessKid booth. FunMasterMike himself was in attendance!

FunMasterMike signed autographs and took pics with the kids.

FM Shreyas Royal and NM Tani Adewumi played a two-game match from London/NYC on ChessKid. It was shown on the big screen!

After the first game ended drawn, Tani took game two in a very back-and forth-match. It should be noted that Shreyas several times turned down a draw in that second game, even thought he was playing in 32C/90F weather. Like a true entertainer, he knew the crowd didn't want to see a perpetual and another draw!

We had the most fantastic time with our UK ChessKids this weekend. We're excited for many more in-person events!
