ChessKid European Team Festival Region 9 Results!

The Region 9 edition of the monthly ChessKid European Team Festival took place on November 19, with the countries of England, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland and Israel fielding teams of four talented young players each. The format of the play was four Round Robin tournaments in each age category, with a time control of 10 minutes + a 5-second increment starting from the first move

Each team fielded players from four different age groups (U8, U10, U12, and U14) and were represented by two boys and two girls.

ChessKid friends WGM Keti Tsatsalashvili and GM Robby Kevlishvili provided commentary.

Until the very end, it was not clear who would make it to the grand final, as Israel and Scotland went side by side. Before the fifth and final round, Scotland even had a one-point lead, but the final games decided everything!

It already looked like the teams would have to play an extra round to decide whether Scotland or Israel would be champions, as they both had 12 points each. But one game was still going...

A draw, which was a victory for team Israel

At this moment, the whole Scotland team must have been rooting for the player from the Netherlands, but the game turned out differently: a draw. And that half point was enough for Israel to win the whole tournament!

WGM Keti Tsatsalashvili was also joined by top world player GM Boris Gelfand.

Israel will now move forward to play against other top teams from the ChessKid European Team Festival in January 2023. Additionally, all players from the winning team received free one-year ChessKid Gold memberships. The second place team received six-month ChessKid Gold memberships, and all other players received three-month memberships.

ChessKid thanks all the captains for their great support, as well as our commentators: WGM Keti Tsatsalashvili, IM Shreyas RoyalGM Robby Kevlishvili, GM Michael Adams and GM Boris Gelfand.
