Meet FunMasterMike at Metro Champs January 3-4 in New York City!

The inaugural New York Metro Area Scholastic Chess Championships is coming to New York City from January 3-4, 2026. More than 1200 kids are already registered, including one "big kid." That's me, FunMasterMike! Scroll down to see how to register and for a special discount code.

While the organizers won't let me compete, I'll be hosting a ChessKid booth. You'll have chances to win prizes, as well as get my autograph and a picture with me. A select few ChessKids may even get a chance to play an over-the-board blitz game with me! Please take it easy on me; I'm an old man 

Incredibly, this is the first time I've ever hosted a ChessKid booth in New York City. And to top it off, it will be right in Times Square at the Marriott Marquis -- they even have a revolving restaurant. Even though the event has "New York" in the title, any kid from anyway in USA, Canada, or anywhere else in the world is eligible to compete!

There are sections for all ranges of abilities and ages -- some are one-day tournaments and some are two-day tournaments. If you're a ChessKid Ironman, you can even play in two separate one-day sections!
