FIDE & ChessKid Unrated GIRLS ONLY tournament

ChessKid is excited to announce the first ever FIDE and ChessKid Unrated Girls Only Tournament! The tournament is a part of the FIDE Queens' Festival and will take place on July 10th, 2022! The best part? This event is FREE to attend!

There will be two editions of this event — an Eastern Edition and a Western Edition. Both Editions will have an Ages 9 and Under and an Ages 10-16 section. Plus, all players will be invited to a special FIDE Queens' Festival workshop on July 9th.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

Eastern Edition Schedule:
July 10th, 3am PT / 5am ET / 10am UK / 11am CEST / 2:30pm India / 7pm Sydney

Western Edition Schedule:
July 10th, 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm UK / 7pm CEST

Entry Fee: This event is free to attend but is only open to FIDE unrated players (National ratings are allowed).

Sections: This tournament will have two editions — an Eastern Edition and a Western Edition. Each edition will have two sections, Girls 9 and Under (players have to be 9 years old or under on the day of the event) and Girls 10-16 (players have to be 10-16 years old on the day of the event)

Format: All sections will feature a 7-round Swiss tournament. The time control will be G5 + a 5-second increment (Meaning each player will get five minutes to make all of their moves, with five seconds added on after every move.)

Warm Up Event: All players will have the opportunity to play in a warm up event taking place on July 2nd at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CEST / 8:30pm India.

PRIZES

All tournament participants will receive electronic certificates of participation. Winners (1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd places) in each category (U9 and U16) will receive electronic diplomas, trophies that will be sent to them, and a free year of ChessKid Gold membership! All festival participants will receive a 3-month ChessKid Gold membership.

In addition, all players will receive an invite to a weekly mini-camp with WGMs. The weekly mini-camps will take place on Sundays starting on September 18th until October 30th. Each mini-camp will last 1.5 hours. The 9 and Under section will be hosted by WGMs Irene Sukandar and Anastasia Karlovich and the Ages 10-16 section will be hosted by WGMs Elisabeth Paehtz and Salome Melia.

 

 

All tournament participants from Ukraine will be provided with a 1-year free gold membership on ChessKid.

QUEENS' FESTIVAL WORKSHOP

All players will be invited for a Zoom workshop with FIDE women representatives and Queens' Festival organizers. The workshop will take place on July 9th at 7am PDT/ 10am EDT/ 3pm BST/ 4pm CEST/ 9pm ICT and will feature the following guests:

FAIR PLAY

By signing up for this tournament, all players agree to the fair play terms set up by ChessKid and the tournament organizers:

• ChessKid will run this event with the highest level of integrity and ethics. All players must play fairly and use good sportsmanship.
• We strictly forbid cheating of all kinds. ChessKid will use its own algorithms to monitor games and will also manually analyze selected games at its discretion.
• All of your moves must be your own. You can not get help from anyone or anything else, including coaches, friends, parents, chess engines, or software of any kind.
• You will also not be allowed to have a phone, tablet, or any other electronic device in the same room.
• You can only have one browser tab open and no other programs running on your computer. Violating this rule is a “technical forfeiture” and you will be disqualified, with no chance at prizes.
• You agree that ChessKid will make the final determination on any fair play issue.
• If you violate the ChessKid Fair Play Policy, then ChessKid will close your account and label it as having violated the Fair Play Policy.
• If you are not willing to agree to the above policies, you will not be allowed to play in the event.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

• All games will be played on ChessKid.com's live server. No account is needed to play. If you already have a ChessKid account, you won't need that either. Special one-time-use tournament accounts will be created for all players.
• Each section will be open for kids to join the tournament about 30 minutes before the first round. Here's a video on how someone can join a live tournament on ChessKid. If you try to join after the starting time, you may not be able to play. It is required that you join before the tournament's starting time.
• ChessKid highly encourages playing on a laptop/desktop computer and not a tablet. WiFi is usually stronger and the site functions better. If you can plug in to an ethernet port, that is best. The reality of online play, even for world champions, is that WiFi failures can impact an online tournament.
• If you must play on a tablet, the website version is the only way (opening a browser on your device). The app will not work for this.
• Preferred browsers are Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
• Clearing your browser's cache before the tournament is another great protective measure.
• If you experience issues in the middle of the game or the tournament, clicking 'refresh' on your browser is the first thing to do. If you 'refresh' in the middle of a game, it will never kick you out of the game, so it can only help.
• Two kids cannot play at the same time on the same device.
• If a family has any issues with logging in, playing, etc, there will be a live help desk on Slack that will open one hour before the first round.
