Force Open the H File, Please

Forcing a Hole in the Blanket...by Ms Jessica Era Martin (aka BoundingOwl)

So, apparently this motif (pattern) was created in 1619, but here it is again in 2010!  Remember that a closed file is one where pawns of both colours block a file.  If you could open the file (no pawns) where their king is, pretty great, right?  If the f pawn is missing, this is especially disastrous.  Break down the castle walls!

Watch how we do it on a chessboard:

Plus, I mean, how cool is it to mate with a pawn?  Did you see the discovered check?

Ok, so how would you sac your knight here for a mate?  Think of the f-pawn missing.  Remember the previous article:  Missing Your F Pawn? or F goes AWOL?  It's important stuff.  That f pawn is pretty serious.  Do you remember the four move mate?  It's the f pawn again!  Why do you think the f pawn is so important?

Force open that h-file even if you have to give pieces away.  What's worth more: a knight or a king?

The idea is this:

Next week you will learn how to beat a World Champion with this pattern!  You never know who will win a game of chess.  Remember that attitude is a big part of chess!  See you soon...
