Getting Started: Register for the Correct Account Type!

Why is it important to register as the correct type of account?

There are 2 types of accounts on ChessKid: 1) Kids, and 2) Adults (this includes Parents, Teachers, Coaches & Administrators).

Kid type accounts and Adult type accounts look different and have different access on ChessKid. Both types of accounts maintain an account history and ratings for Fast & Slow Chess and Puzzles, but they cannot be converted from one type to another once they’re created -

Kid accounts can access all of the Kid activities on the site:

• Kids can play other Kids on the site – that means they can create Fast and Slow games with another Kid anytime they’d like to.
• Kids have a different Home page.
• Kids have the Spin the Wheel feature. 
• Kids have a Daily Puzzle.
• Kids have Daily Star Rewards.
• Only Kid accounts are allowed to join the ChessKid Official Club.
• Only Kids are allowed to play in Fast Tournaments, Slow Tournament & Slow Matches.
• Kids must work through the Lesson Levels sequentially.

Adult type accounts have management tools and can be guardians of Kids.

• Adult accounts have a different Home page which shows a snapshot of Kid activity in the center of the screen.
• Adults have access to the Kids page where you can manage each of your Kids’ accounts and view progress indicators, game histories and report cards for individual students.
• Adult accounts have the ability to create Clubs, which are a way you can group your students for easy student management (they’re not social clubs).

ChessKid Tip: ChessKid isn’t designed to be a place for adults to play chess games. We want you to be able to play your friends, family and students, but you must send a direct game challenge in order to start a game.

ChessKid Tip: Teacher and Coaches have the ability to advance their lesson level, so  they can access Lesson material for use during clubs and classes.

Both Kids and Adults are able to purchase Gold Membership access, but only Adult accounts receive bulk membership discounts (whenever 2 or more Golds are purchased, you get a family/group discount!) Kid accounts can only upgrade to one Gold at a time.
