Dear Friends,
Last week we learned how powerful a knight can be on f5. It attacks g7, which is where the king is happily napping behind his blankie. White can set up a discovered attack and a double attack, by threatening checkmate on g7.
I'm not sure, but I think the alien guy is wearing a tie.
Today we will look at several more examples. The knight on f5 can serve to create a sneaky discovered pin. It can also lead a surprise attack on the king, leaving the opposing queen sad and vulnerable. Disco attack!
This puzzle is a little more difficult. Make forcing moves! Your first move is a check and a knight sacrifice.
Here is an intro to our next lesson: the bishop sac on h6. The knight not only attacks g7 from f5, it also attacks h6! Make forcing moves, checks, threats, and captures to solve this next mate.
Excellent! Next week we will follow up with more queen sacs! Nothing more satisfying than giving up the old queen sandwich for some checkmate pie.
Sincerely, Ms Martin
