Mate-in-One: Helper Mates

Howdy chess partners!  Today we are going to practice our checkmating skills.  This is important, because checkmate is how you win the game!  (You are not allowed to eat the king Sealed.)  The most common type of checkmate is called a Helper Mate.  Do you know why?  One piece helps another!  Your chess pieces are always stronger when they work together. By, Mrs Jessica E Prescott (aka BoundingOwl).

Here is an example:

The bishop helps protect the queen.  Without the bishop, bye-bye queenie!

Now you try!  There is only one correct answer.
1.  White to move and mate in one.

2.  Black to move and mate in one.  Use a little helper.Tongue Out

Good!  Notice how with helper checkmates the piece that gives check can be right up next to the king!
3.  White to move.
4.  Black to move.  The queen doesn't have to be the checking piece.  She could be the helper!

Superb!  You are now a Master Helper Checkmater...wait, a Helper Checkmate Masterer?  No, a Checkmate Helper Master?  Anyway, I think you've got it.
Now, go help your mom make dinner! Kiss
