Scintillating Skewers: Sharp and Scary

Scintillating Skewers: Sharp and Scary...by Ms Jessica Era Martin (aka BoundingOwl)

Hi kids and coaches!  How are your tactics coming along?  Today we will conclude our skewering.  Remember that a skewer is just like a pin, only backwards:  the bigger piece is in the middle.

These puzzles are tricky so please be sure you have solved the other puzzles first.

1.  Black to move and win the exchange in 3.

2.  Real World Champions Skewer Too!

White to move and win an exchange or more.  First use a skewer, then a discovered attack!  Two moves only.

3. My all-time favorite puzzle.  The first move is always the same.

4.  Part-two.  Same first move, but what if she escapes here?

5.  Here?

6. Maybe she can hide?

 7.  Finally....a trapped queen!!

Fun with shiny things!

Have a great week!  Until next time...sharpen your teeth on some chess tactics.
