Show Good Sportsmanship!

UPDATE: The Abort Button is now gone. It has been replaced with a Resign Button (so be careful where you click)! From now on, when a game in Fast Chess starts, you should play it out, regardless of colors or rating. If you click Resign, you will lose rating points Cry just like a regular loss.

Hey ChessKids! FunMasterMike is here to let you know about good sportsmanship on ChessKid.com!

Let's talk about Fast Chess. Everyone loves playing new kids from all over, but the fun gets ruined when kids decide to "abort" games instead of agreeing to the matchup.

That's no fun for anyone, and when ChessKids abort, it means fewer players on the site because kids get frustrated. Eventually, no one would play anyone if we continue to allow aborting. At ChessKid, aborting without good reason is considered bad sportsmanship Frown.

So I have a request - when you get matched up with another ChessKid, please don't abort. Maybe you didn't get your favorite color, or maybe their rating is a little higher or lower than yours. Just like sports, you just have to play the opponent and do your best. We're sure you'll learn something either way Surprised!

You all are lucky. When I was a ChessKid, we didn't have internet chess, so I only got to play at tournaments and chess clubs. You get to play whenever you want, provided you do it the right way!

Whether you're a King or a Mighty Duck, sportsmanship is the right way to play.

By the way, pretty soon we will be getting rid of the "abort" button. It will be replaced with a "resign" button - so giving up will mean losing the game and lowering your rating. You might as well start playing all games now to get used to our new system.

Thanks for your help ChessKids! Our site is growing fast thanks to you all. Let's all use Fast Chess the right way and we will all get better, faster!
