The Lebron James of Chess

Ever heard of Lebron James? Of course you have.

Ever heard of Justus Williams? You will soon.

This high-schooler from Brooklyn, New York was recently featured in a "Citizen Kid" profile, produced by Disney! The features include kids from around the country who excel is areas like bowling, figure skating and entrepreneurship.

Why was he chosen? Check out the video and see for yourself:

Justus is both a National Master and a FIDE Master, with a peak USCF rating of 2383! He won the 2013 U.S. Cadet Championship (a tournament for those under 16) and last month competed in the U.S. Junior Closed Championship (a tournament for those under 21).

He has won numerous team national championships and the K-9 Individual Championship.

Even though he is only 16, he is in the top one percent of all chess players in the country, as Chess NYC Co-Director and Coach Russ Makofsky explained in the video. Justus also gives back by teaching the game, in places as diverse as the inner-city of New York to South Africa.

"Justus has a quiet inner strength and confidence over the board," Makofsky told ChessKid.com. "His playing demeanor and temperament are consistent and unwavering, resulting in a chess maturity and understanding far beyond his years.
