Tournament Update: Round Breaks and Countdown Timer Added

Many chess tournaments are being organized or are moving online this Spring, and ChessKid is proud to be partnering with coaching programs, school districts, and state and national federations all over the world. Our programming and events teams continue to meet the requirements of tournament organizers.

ChessKid parents and coaches will now be able to set break times between the rounds of their tournaments. A five-second countdown timer, with an audible alert, has also been added to ensure kids do not miss when their next round is starting!

Breaks Between Rounds

When creating your tournaments you’ll now see an option for round breaks. Your choices are any of the five-minute intervals ranging from "no round break" to 60 minutes. Breaks will automatically start when the last game in a round has finished. Please note that you will not be able to manually unpause or modify the breaks once the tournaments start!

The break options, if chosen, go from 5 five minutes up to 60 minutes. Remember that the "break clock" only starts when the last game in the round finishes, so most kids will have a break even longer than the chosen time.

Countdown Timer

A new feature is that before the start of a new round, an audible five-second countdown timer will start. Make sure you have the volume up on your computer. If you step away during the break this will help you not miss your next round!

In the coming months, ChessKid will continue to add features to tournaments to help make them successful for your event!
