To move forward, sometimes you have to go backward and pawn play is no exception. FunMasterMike explains backward pawns and three key ideas you must know about them! Now only 99 more things to learn to be as good as the FunMaster!
When is a pawn a super hero?
FunMasterMike shows you three ways that pawns can be as strong as any piece on the board.
But the fun doesn't end there. FM Klein also teaches you the exact opposite, when pawns are weaklings.
Watch this video to make sure your pawns are as powerful as they can be.
The teacher versus the student - a classic rivalry that usually starts out well for the teacher. Eventually the students learns enough to take one from the teacher, and that's what happens here. Benzoo is bested by a former student in the final round of the Michigan Open. You've probably never seen a king, rook and bishop coordinate so well, or create so many tactics and mating nets. Watch and learn how to beat your teacher!
Labor Day celebrates the workers of the country, and the chess players! GM Benzoo shows a great attacking game from his own play. He uses every piece in the attack and finishes Black with a really cool rook sacrifice. Benzoo makes playing like a grandmaster look easy. It isn't easy of course, but if you follow his advice, you'll inch just a wee bit closer!
We're back with another one of Playful Squirrel's challenging Quizzes! Once again, it's time to pause the video and think really hard, because each quiz question will stretch your brain! Make sure you watch "What To Do 8" (see Related Links, below) before this video.
Last time we learned how to "Attack Weaknesses." But what do you do if there are no weaknesses to attack? Why you create them, of course! The PlayfulSquirrel darts and maneuvers about, creating weak pawns and color complexes, opening the enemy king, making enemy pieces bad, and...well, you'll see soon enough...
The third type of pawn weakness to be aware of at the beginner level is the "backward pawn". The backward pawn has been left behind by all buddies, and he isn't happy about it! He can't move without being captured, and the square in front of him is pretty weak too (an "outpost" square). Somebody help this pawn!
