The third type of pawn weakness to be aware of at the beginner level is the "backward pawn". The backward pawn has been left behind by all buddies, and he isn't happy about it! He can't move without being captured, and the square in front of him is pretty weak too (an "outpost" square). Somebody help this pawn!
