In summer 2022, the first ever Unrated Girls Only Tournament was held on ChessKid in cooperation with FIDE, bringing together 232 girls from 55 different countries.
All participants received invites to weekly mini-camps with professional chess players. The 9 & Under section was hosted by WGMs Irene Sukandar and Anastasiya Karlovich and the Ages 10-16 section featured WGMs Elisabeth Paehtz (now GM Elisabeth Paehtz) and Salome Melia.
It is immensely inspiring for young chess fans to have some of the world’s best players look over their games, talk about their tactics, and provide feedback on their brilliant moves (as well as the moves that could have been done differently).
In addition to the mini-camps, all tournament participants were invited to a Zoom workshop with chess role models, including:
All tournament participants also received 3 months of free ChessKid Gold membership, while medalists in each category were awarded with a full year of membership.
These memberships provide a great opportunity for all the kids to improve their skills by solving unlimited chess problems, analyzing their own games, and engaging with online video lessons.
We are happy to see so many joined the workshop and the tournament for unrated girls. Thank you, dear girls. Please, continue playing, get better and have fun—because you are our future!
—WGM Eva Repkova, Chairperson of the FIDE Commission for Women's Chess
