Devious Discoveries: Living in the Danger Zone

Devious Discoveries:  Living in the Danger Zone... by, Mrs Jessica Prescott aka BoundingOwl

Aloha delightful friends!  Ready for some tactics?  By now, you have seen several videos on scintillating skewers, piercing pins, and fearsome forks.  Have you seen the Devious Discoveries?  (Do you know what literary technique we are using to make the words sound the same at the beginning?  Alliteration!)

This bee shows how you feel when you find a discovery.  What could you call this bee using alliteraion?  Buzzing Bee?  Buff and bristly bee?

Discovery tactics happen when there are three pieces in the same straight line.  The piece in the middle moves away, and ALOHA! the piece behind it makes the attack.  It's a great attack for the lazy piece.  He just tells the person in front of him to move, and he lays back and takes the credit!

Bozo Barking Beefy Bishop?

Try this:  Find three pieces lined up.

So in order to make this tactic WIN something for you, you have to aim at something expensive.  See who's lined up, and who needs to move.

Here are three more puzzles for you:

Checkmate with a pawn!  How lazy was that bishop?!  Tongue out

This is also a discovered check.

Whoa!  That wasn't just one check.  That was TWO checks!  Extremely dangerous discovered double check.

Were you paying attention in the video?

Remember, if there are pieces lined up, you definitely do NOT want your king to live in the danger zone.  Good luck finding devious discoveries in your games!  More dastardly and dangerous disco checks next time (and harder ones...)

If there are 8 rooks on the board, you'd better hope they are yours...(reviled and revolting rampant rooks)!
