FunMasterMike Loses A Winning Game!

Many tournament-playing ChessKids out there probably play a lot of G/30 (you have to play all of your moves in 30 minutes).

Years ago I entered a G/30 tournament called the "New York Masters," which required you to be a master just to compete!

My opponent was an international master. I was Black and the game was completely equal -- lots of trades and a blocked pawn structure.

But just when it looked like we'd agree to a draw, he sacrificed a pawn to keep the game going since I was very low on time.

Sadly for me, it worked. I didn't calculate my endings fast enough, which goes to show you that you're never too high-rated to know your endings inside and out!

To get better at winning these type of endings, watch my video on simplifying, or watch Benzoo's video on outside passed pawns, or Coach Mike Amori's example from Bobby Fischer's game!

See you next Wednesday for "FunMasterMike's Most Fun Moments!"
