FunMasterMike's Most Fun Moments!

As a boy, chess was my life. I played in tournaments nearly every weekend. Are you like that?

There was no ChessKid back then, just magazines and books. My mom actually had to drive me to my friend's house to play a live game!

There were even people that played by writing down their move on a postcard and dropping it in the mail. Crazy, right? Yeah, life moved slowly then. Luckily it all paid off when I once won a national championship.

FunMasterMike is going to "bridge" those olden chess times with 21st-century ChessKids!

What does that mean? Every Wednesday, FunMasterMike will be showing off the key moment from one of his tournament games from long ago. What was he thinking? Why did he play his move? What was the analysis?

Spend five minutes with FunMasterMike every Wednesday and see how you can become a top ChessKid!

In this first example, I was in a "must-win" situation waaaaaay back in 1999. I played a crazy variation my coach showed me once. I offered a queen for two bishops and two pawns, and it worked! See for yourself:

Notice how useful it is to go after outposts for your pieces -- watch this video to learn more about outposts! Remember to also invite all your pieces to the party!

See you next Wednesday for "FunMasterMike's Most Fun Moments!"
