Shreyas Royal Becomes FM

Wow! What a past couple months it has been for young chess players.

Recently we saw Abhimanyu Mishra become the youngest grandmaster in history. If you've been watching the ChessKid Youth Speed Chess Championship you have brand new FIDE Master in Ryo Chen, fresh off his first victory against a grandmaster in over the board chess. And Tani made master of course!

Well today it's ChessKid's own, Shreyas Royal making news. He recently vaulted his rating over 2300 to become an FM, just like the FunMaster.

Shreyas was all smiles before this game!

With an excellent tournament in Budapest, Hungary, Shreyas defeated his first grandmaster and crossed the necessary 2300 FIDE (international rating) to become a FIDE Master (viewers of our live shows already know he's a budding FunMaster).

Here's what Shreyas had to say about the tournament: "I was elated after my first grandmaster win because I had lost the last two games against him in the last two tournaments and this time I had totally out-prepared and outplayed him. In my opinion it was a brilliant positional game and my best game of all time. It felt weird after I became a FM. I had been 2121 for almost two years so to suddenly become a FIDE Master was like in the blink of an eye."

Shreyas's first win against a GM, and what he believes is his best game ever!

What a game and tournament from Shreyas! We at ChessKid are excited to continue to watch his progress. Make sure you are watching Shreyas' live streams to get to know this up-and-coming star. You can find the schedule of future streams here.
