Why Did My Kid Lose That Game?

The story is as old as time itself:

  1. Parent teaches their kid chess.
  2. Kid rapidly improves at chess.
  3. Kid is now stronger than their parent at chess.
  4. Kid asks parent why they lost their chess game, and parent is unable to answer the questions!

Does this frustrating experience sound familiar? Fear not! This article’s goal is to show you how you can use ChessKid's analysis board, and computer engine, to review your child’s chess games!

From an Adult Account’s Perspective

First find your kid’s account and select the drop down menu next to their name:

Next click the History/Analyze button highlighted in red below:

Last click Analyze next to the game you want to study:

Alternate pro-tip: You can use this URL but just change the ending to your exact child's/student's account: https://www.chesskid.com/games/archive?username=liamkidchess1

From a Kid Account's Perspective

Hover over the learn button on the left side of your screen and click "Analyze Games."

Repeat the last step above.

Wait for the computer engine to load the game and then you can click through the moves and start learning from any mistakes! While the computer can't explain everything, it will show the major mistakes and suggest improvements, which is a great start. Note that ChessKid will continue to make improvements in computer analysis in the weeks to come.

Make sure you read this article if you want to learn more about the analysis board. Happy learning!
