A Coach's Best 'Skewer' Positions

 

Ahhh, the deadly skewer tactic! The opposite of the pin, but just as powerful! In a pin a piece cannot move, or does not want to move for fear of losing material. With a skewer the piece is forced to move and the player will lose the material that is on the other side. Skewers can only be made by our long-range pieces - the bishop, rook, and queen. 

Coaches: Here are four skewer tactics for you to use with your students!

This first one is probably one of the most famous skewer tactics because of the famous movie Searching for Bobby Fischer!
